Frank Verstraete
Frank Verstraete is a Professor for theoretical quantum many body physics at the University of Vienna, and also holds a professorship in Ghent, Belgium. He is using the theory of entanglement to describe strongly correlated quantum many body systems. He pioneered the use of quantum tensor networks to achieve this, and this approach is now a topic of very intense study in fields ranging from condensed matter, statistical physics, quantum chemistry to high energy physics and string theory. Future ESQ postdocs should aim to form a bridge between the theoretical and experimental work done on strongly correlated systems in Vienna.
